Congratulations of the Permanent Delegate of Uzbekistan to UNESCO Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva on the occasion of the International Women’s Day
On this bright and beloved holiday, please allow me with a special pleasure congratulate all women, mothers, sisters, daughters with a wonderful spring holiday – International Women’s Day! Over decades, the world has been celebrating this day as a wonderful symbol of kindness, love, light, tenderness, beauty, allegiance and renewing nature.
Uzbek nation has always been glorious in its great respect and gentle attitude to women. Since ancient times, an image of a woman, as a symbol of kindness, allegiance and devotion, has been a “Pierian spring” for poets, thinkers and artists of the East.
Today women enjoy civil liberties and possess wide opportunities for self-actualization. An Uzbek proverb says “By teaching your son – you teach one person, by teaching a daughter, you teach a family”. It says about a special role of a woman in a family, as well as the importance of her moral and spiritual background.
Promoting rights and interests of women, protecting family and motherhood – are key factors determining the level of a society’s development. It is pleasant to note that these concerns are brought to the level of priority directions of national policy – social-political and economic status of women is incessantly growing, as their contribution into implementation of the reforms in all spheres of life is increasing.
In the year 2010, announced by the United Nations as the year of equality – “Equal rights, equal opportunities: progress for all”, I would especially like to emphasize fruitful activities being carried out by women of Uzbekistan in socio-economic, cultural, scientific and sport life of the country. Thus, in 2007-2008 for the first time in Uzbekistan, a woman has participated as a candidate at the elections of the President and for the first time a woman was selected to the position of the Speaker of the lower house of the Parliament.
The election campaign at the Parliamentary elections in last year December in Uzbekistan, the second time erenow has been held in accordance with the general recommendations of the UN Committee on liquidation of discrimination against women, regarding 30% quote for women at fielding candidates for deputy elections. By results of the elections, 33 women are presented in the Legislative house of the Parliament, comprising 22% of all members. Number of Senator-women equals to 15%. Number of women in regional administration equals to 15%. About 22% of judicial system personnel are women.
It is hard to evaluate the women’s contribution into establishment and strengthening of a state, as well as all fields of economy, whether it is an industry, agriculture, education, culture or healthcare.
On this wonderful occasion, allow me to wish all women health and happiness, flowers and smiles. Let a family warmth, well-being and prosperity, piece and florescence always be a part of your homes!
