Twelve children with congenital heart conditions underwent surgery and 45 children were examined and received consultations as part of a recent charity campaign backed by the You Are Not Alone foundation and the French association “La Chaîne de l’Espoir” (Chain of Hope), whose experts were on a visit to Uzbekistan from 10 to 17 January.
The surgical procedures were carried out by French medical experts jointly with their Uzbek counterparts from the State Specialized Surgery Centre. The charity project is aimed at providing assistance to children with complex heart pathologies from orphanages and low-income families.
This is the French specialists’ fifth mission to Tashkent. They had earlier visited our country in July and December 2015 and April and September 2016.
With the You Are Not Alone foundation’s backing, in May and November last year children with extremely complex heart conditions were sent to France to undergo surgery in a hospital of the French city of Nantes.
In all, 35 children with complex heart conditions from orphanages and low-income families in Uzbekistan have undergone surgery since the start of collaboration between Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva’s Foundation and the French association “La Chaîne de l’Espoir”.
In March 2016, with the foundation’s support, a group of Uzbek health workers from the State Specialized Surgery Centre visited the paediatrics centre in Nantes to improve their practical knowledge and skills in paediatric cardiac surgery and cardiac intensive care.
“We wish our little patients a speedy recovery and hope that from now on they will lead lives full of health, joy and happiness. We sincerely hope that our joint efforts with the experts of the French association “La Chaîne de l’Espoir” and the State Specialized Surgery Centre will contribute to the further development of cardiac surgery in Uzbekistan and will give a new lease of life to many children in need,” said Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva.
The You are Not Alone Foundation is a charitable organization which was founded by Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva in 2002 to provide comprehensive assistance and support to children left without parental care. The charity’s primary goals are to promote progress among orphaned and abandoned children and to provide them with better access to comprehensive education, as well as to offer assistance in healthcare and psychological support.
The charity also provides assistance in the treatment of children with serious medical conditions from low-income families.
