The You are not alone foundation marks its 10th anniversary

I was 18 when I visited one of the Tashkent orphanages for the first time and it was really depressing to see the difficult conditions children were living in. This case had a profound impact on me and was a real turning point in my life helping me to realize the misery children left without parental care and love were going through at such an early age.  I made a decision to do my utmost to help those children and improve the situation in the orphanages across the country. My first charitable organization, the You are not alone foundation, was set up in 2002. It is a non-government organization which helps orphaned children and children left without parental care, and its main goal is to provide orphans with better opportunities for their future. The foundation has played a key role in effecting reforms to improve the situation in the area of the social protection of children left without parental care. One of the priority goals of the foundation is to encourage, motivate and help every orphaned or abandoned child in Uzbekistan to receive quality education thus raising their confidence in their own abilities to build their successful future.

The charity’s activities initially also focused on children with special needs, and then we decided that more effort needed to be put into creating opportunities for disabled children and providing them with all-round assistance for development and treatment. Two years later, in 2004, the foundation was instrumental in setting up the National Centre for the Social Adaptation of Children which provides medical and consultative support to children with disabilities and their parents. The two organizations are now working in close partnership to promote education and development of children with special needs.

Over the past 10 years the You are not alone foundation has achieved a remarkable feat and I’m very proud of progress that has been made to date by our team who through their hard work, commitment and devotion have been able to change for the better the lives of hundreds of orphaned and abandoned children across Uzbekistan. We take great pride in the role our organization has been playing in helping children in need, but we do not want to be complacent as we realize that we have a lot of important tasks ahead of us. I would like every orphaned child in Uzbekistan to know that they are not alone and that we will continue doing our utmost to help them succeed in their life’s path.
