IMG_1711Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva has received the Fashion 4 Development Leading Lady Award at the 9th Annual First Ladies luncheon in New York on 24 September, which brought together political figures, diplomats and fashion industry leaders from many countries across the world.

F4D’s Annual First Ladies Luncheon was held during the 74th session of the United Nations’ General Assembly.

The Fashion 4 Development is an activist organisation founded by Evie Evangelou and committed to supporting the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals with a significant focus on sustainable lifestyle practices for a healthier world, preservation of culture and women’s and children’s empowerment.

IMG_1712The First Ladies Luncheon is held in conjunction with the United Nations General Assembly to encourage positive social change and aims to recognise individuals for their humanitarian efforts.

“It is a great honour for me to be the recipient of this award that recognises not only my efforts but also the efforts of other people who are committed to safeguarding the health of our planet.

Fashion 4 Development, thank you for the immense work you have been doing for the future of our planet, for your strong commitment to creating the sustainable world, for raising the awareness of our common responsibility and making people think of what kind of legacy we will be leaving to future generations. Will we leave them a beautiful, peaceful and healthy planet earth? Will we give our children the opportunity to develop, move forward, explore the universe and believe in the beauty of their dreams?

IMG_1713“Our planet has significantly changed due to technology and industrialisation, and today we have started experiencing its side effects. We can no longer close our eyes to the problems of such a magnitude, the problems which are so far reaching that they are fraying the social, economic and cultural fabric of many countries. It is important to extend the notion of home beyond the boundaries of our own backyards. Our home is the Planet Earth.

I am sure that by joining our efforts we can achieve a lot and make the world a better, kinder, safer and more secure place,” Mrs Karimova-Tillyaeva said in her awards acceptance speech.

Being a prominent philanthropist and an active humanitarian, Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva served for ten years as Uzbekistan’s ambassador to UNESCO. Her charity “You Are Not Alone” Foundation helps severely underprivileged children in Uzbekistan, offering a wide range of support to orphaned children and children with special needs.

IMG_1714Her foundation works in partnership with French Association “La Chaîne de l’Espoir” (Chain of hope), and thanks to this collaboration, in the past four years French cardiac surgeons have performed over 110 heart operations on Uzbek children in need.

Through The Harmonist, the personalized Maison de Parfum, Mrs. Karimova-Tillyaeva is sponsoring philanthropic causes that develop solutions to such problems as the global need for clean, safe water, sanitation and hygiene. Her Droplet Project, launched in 2017, reflects the growing urgency to inspire discussions on both local and world-wide water-preservation topics by using the evocative power of art. This project represents a firm commitment to finding much needed responses to mitigate climate change and hone humanity’s use of the world’s precious water resources.
